Baptism Birthday
Yesterday, March 29th, was Isaac's baptism birthday. I don't think I will ever get used to how quickly time is going. Those older and wiser than myself say that it goes faster and faster the older you get, and I am definitely finding that to be true. It makes me want to be less busy so we can really take the time to slow down...to appreciate and get the most out of every moment. Last year for Isaac's baptism, I thought it would be neat to make a cake similar to the one that was made for my baptism 30 years ago. My grandma still had the same pan that was used to make my cake, so we made Isaac an identical one...except his had brown and blue frosting of course...pink would have been a bit silly. But, if we should ever have a girl, you can be sure that her cake will be decorated exactly like mine was :-) I don't know why, but I enjoy replicating the past and carrying on tradition. So, I also wanted to get a picture of us, just as one had been taken for my baptism. When making the collage, I realized I don't have the picture scanned of me with my parents...only my sponsors...but you get the idea. :) Isaac is lying on the same afghan that I was. My mom crocheted the afghan, and if I remember correctly, it was the very first thing she ever crocheted. Isaac is wearing the gown that Brian's grandfather, father, sister and himself wore, so that was very special, as well! Tradition...a wonderful, meaningful thing!

A weekend of fun!
I'm a bit behind in posting once again. A few weeks ago, we went to the Children's Museum with my parents and brother on Saturday, and Sunday we went to the zoo with Isaac's Aunt Kat. We now have a membership to both places for the year, thanks to my parents and Brian's mom and step-dad. We will be spending a lot of time at both in the next year...both fun and educational! Isaac LOVED the water table at the Children's Museum...we could have stayed there for hours and he would have been perfectly content. He's still crawling in these pics, but in the past two days has pretty much stopped crawling altogether and prefers walking. He took his first steps toward the beginning of January, spent a long time taking just a couple steps, then spent a long time taking 8-10 steps at a time before falling and is now fully, confidently walking. He can even walk with his sleep sack on...it is pretty cute. It's been very fun watching him get better every day, and watching his confidence grow...there are a few important life lessons to be learned (or reminded of) in watching a child grow, learn and develop, that is for sure! He's also quite the talker...mostly babbling, of course. He does have a few words though...some he's been saying for quite some time, and others just recently. Words he has said so far include various forms of mommy and daddy (mom, momma, mom-mom, dad, dada), up, push, more, go, spoon, bowl, me, no, uh-oh, ball, blue, yeah, monkey (this doesn't come out quite so clear...more like "eeeee"...but he definitely means his monkey when he says it) and answers in a very quiet "woof" when asked what a puppy says. His favorite word, which we have absolutely no clue what it is, or means is bitabitabitabitabita. He says it all the time lately. Perhaps one day he will share with us what it means. :-)

The Hair
Isaac has one little hair that is, for some reason, growing MUCH faster than every other hair on his head. Maybe someday the others will catch up, but for now we will continue to enjoy our low maintenance baby...err, I mean, toddler...no hair cuts, no combing, no bed head.
ps...I've been on a roll with entries, so be sure to scroll down if you don't want to miss anything! :-) Thanks for visiting, by the way!

Isaac is ONE!!!

It seems very hard to believe that 365 days have already passed since our precious, blue-eyed angel came into our lives. It was at this moment that I am writing - 8:43am, that I was lying on the bed in the hospital answering a bunch of questions from the nurse. The only one I remember is "if your heart should stop for any reason today, would you like it to be resuscitated?" Ummm...yes, please! I was reminded at that moment how fragile life is, and what a miracle life is. It's rather unfathomable to think about how life begins. I'm in awe every time I think about Isaac growing inside of me...from a tiny little tadpole to a beautiful baby boy. How his eyes, lips, nose and ears were formed just perfectly. How his brain learns and picks up on things. It is truly amazing. It is incomprehensible to me how someone could see a baby be born, and grow and develop and still not believe that there is a God...for there truly is, and we give Him thanks so many times every day for entrusting us with His child. One of my favorite singer/songwriters, Cherri Keaggy expresses perfectly what is in mine and Brian's hearts..."Lord we thank you for everything you give us, but most importantly, we pray Lord Jesus, make our son a little boy on his knees. We pray that someday he'll become a young man on his knees." That's what it's all about...life...following Jesus. Trusting in Him. Living for Him. Loving Him. Having faith in Him. We pray that Isaac gets that...and believes it. The speed at which this past year went by is a gentle reminder to cherish and hold tight to every moment we have with Isaac. Time really does go way too fast. Our baby is now a toddler...soon to be a preschooler...soon to be school-aged, soon to be an adolescent, and soon to be off to college...making a life of his own...a wife, children, and us...grandparents. The circle of life. We hold tight to these moments and cherish the memories we can hold in our hearts forever. We love you, Isaac...more than we will ever be able to express to you. Happy Birthday, Love!!!
